The Charles Evers Autograph Collection Highlights Huggins and Scott’s February Auction

Huggins and Scott’s spring auction of 2018 has opened for bidding on Friday April 27th and close on Thursday night May 10th with the 30-minute rule beginning at 11:00pm ET.

 

An incredible assortment is offered with tremendous investment-quality pieces from all sports and the historical and political worlds. It features another amazing array of items that caters to every level of collector and investor. Whether you only want to spend a few hundred dollars or several thousand dollars, our selection of quality items has a little something for just about everyone.

 

The highlight collection features the first offering of an all-star autograph collection, assembled by Cooperstown regular Charles Evers. This collection is headlined by: a brilliant Christy Mathewson cut signature,

a gorgeous Babe Ruth cut, and a seldom seen Ed Walsh single signed baseball. We are honored to be offering this stellar collection, and look forward to the remainder in our future auctions.

 

Vintage baseball card collectors will enjoy an abundance of pre-war rarities including professionally graded and raw examples of cards from a variety of designations, including Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Christy Mathewson, Cy Young, just to name a few; a number of graded and ungraded tobacco and candy cards offered as singles and in lots, and much more. Highlights include: a pair of T206 Ty Cobb Bat off shoulder (SGC 55 & PSA 3); a 1916 Zeenut PCL Zip Zabel PSA 5 (only graded) and many more.

 

The post-war collection is substantial as well with an unusually large number of singles, lots, complete and near sets from 1948 to present. Highlights include: a large offering of 1952 Topps high numbers including (2) #407 Eddie Mathews (PSA 4 & 4.5); a large collection of 1967 Topps Punch-Outs including Mickey Mantle (SGC 45), a 1951 Bowman complete set being sold as (3) lots, and a 1975 Topps unopened wax box.

 

 

We also offer an extensive modern insert collection with multiple certified autographed card lots, short prints, 1 of 1s and signed relic cards including a Shohei Ohtani Orange Refractor and much more. As always, we also present a plethora of wonderful “shoebox” collections (always a crowd favorite).

We are pleased to offer a number of neat memorabilia items including a remarkable collection of 1950s HOFers/star Contact Proof Original Photos with a 1951 shot of Mickey Mantle wearing uniform number 6!

 

 

 

As well as others used for cards including Willie Mays (1955 Topps), Al Kaline (1954 Topps Rookie Card) and Roberto Clemente (Rookie year, no card attribution). High grade Sports Illustrateds are featured including the highest graded issue number 1 & 2 (CGC 9.8 & 9.4).

 

This auction has a large number of autographed baseball items including a very clean 1927 New York Yankees team signed baseball; a Miller Huggins signed photo cut; A boldly signed Cy Young Black & White HOF Postcard; a very nice Lou Gehrig index card; a very nice collection of Hall of Fame cut signatures and plenty more treasures.

 

If you don’t collect baseball items, we have a terrific assortment of some high-end pieces from the other sports including a wonderful selection of football, basketball, hockey and boxing lots, sets, autographs and memorabilia.

 

Highlights in the basketball category includes: a nice selection of high-end Michael Jordan short prints and inserts; three very attractive 1986-87 Fleer complete sets, with one completely PSA graded; a 1992 Dream Team signed basketball; a 1981-82 NCAA Champion UNC Tar Heals Team Signed ball with Michael Jordan and much more.

 

 

The football category features a nice spread of high grade singles, unopened boxes/packs and autographs. Highlights include: a 1965 Topps George Blanda PSA Gem Mint 10, POP 4 & none higher; a 1984 Topps John Elway Rookie PSA Gem Mint 10; a 1984 Topps #228 Walter Payton PSA Gem Mint 10; a 2000 Bowman Chrome 6 box case; 1997 Mackey Award Trophy presented to Barry Sanders; 1937 Redskins first program from Washington, DC and more.

 

The Hockey section is heavily represented in this auction, featuring a large selection of uncut sheets, singles & unopened product. Highlights include: The Holy Grail of Hockey! 1911-12 C55 Imperial Tobacco George Vezina SGC 92; a 1965 Topps Near set all PSA graded split into 10 Lots, a 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee complete set on (3) uncut sheets with a stunning Wayne Gretzky Rookie and some late 1970s O-Pee-Chee wax boxes plus much more!

 

If Non-Sports cards, comics, coins, Americana or Political collecting is your cup of tea, we are offering a nice selection in those categories as well including a (12) lots of high-grade Horrors of War PSA singles; a scarce Beatles signed photo; 1953 Playboy Inaugural issue; and a very nice selection of graded comics and coins.
